Subject Documenta is a photographic work based on the spirit of bricolage, a French term which simply means a process of improvisation in a human endeavor, a nonconformist attitude towards a craft or the materials itself. The entire series of work was shot on a single wall in the artist’s studio space. Staying true to the attitude of a bricoler, the images and materials used in Subject Documenta were conveniently available in the studio space. The main materials used in Subject Documenta were the Overhead Projector (OHP) and Liquid-Crystal Display (LCD) Projector. The LCD projector was connected to the computer and the Internet, which became the gateway for the artist to access images online. The use of online images allowed the artist to ‘be’ at places without being physically there to shoot them. The process is then followed by interpreting the found images; by placing objects such as books, coins, tree barks and rocks on the OHP projector. The found objects and images were used regardless of its function and brought out of context as a tool to create a new image. The new image created becomes a form of a photographic documentation, which contains a new story and language. - Nhawfal Juma'at
