THE MAN AND THE MACHINE

Call for Exhibition

International Group Exhibition in Rome. November 2020

FREE ENTRY Artists are invited to submit 1 to 3 artworks addressing the theme

Accepted media: Photography, Digital Graphic, Digital Visual Design

Since the first complex and automated technological inventions (starting from the experimental science of the sixteenth century up to the current electronic and digital machines) the relationship between man and machine has characterized every evolutionary development of civilization.

Each new invention indelibly marks not only the course of technical development, but also the same vision of the world of man. A distinctive sign in the man-machine relationship is precisely the determined will of the individual and his mental structure to accept the instant modification of his habits by virtue of a new technological discovery. Today the dependence on intelligent machines is made manifest in every field concerning human activity. Especially since the 19th century, art has represented an important cultural field through which we may reflect on the relationship between man and machine, starting from the futurist experiences in the pictorial field, passing through the film productions of Fritz Lang with Metropolis and Ridley Scott with Blade Runner, up to the contemporary images of Thomas Struth in the photographic field.
This call invites photographers and visual designers to propose works capable of offering a vision of the current historical and social context and responding to the theme of the relationship between man and machine. A. - Muratore

THE PERFORMER

Call for Exhibition

International Group Exhibition in Rome. October 2020

FREE ENTRY Artists are invited to submit 1 to 3 artworks addressing the theme

Accepted media: Photography, Digital Graphic, Digital Visual Design

In the next exhibition the figure of the performer will be our gaze's protagonist .
The gathered works will once again make explicit the role of the photographic medium, already highlighted with the experiences of the performing arts since the 1960s, in the process of creation and diffusion, as well as documentation, analysis and interpretation of the performative act.
The key element is the "gesture", as in any type of performative performance: artistic, theatrical, choreographic, musical, etc., understood as a set of signs of a corporeal and primitive language, as cultural codes that concern behavior, through which the performer seeks contact, involvement and often active participation.
The figure of the performer is thus recalled as the author of the artistic performance but also of the athletic one, where aesthetics, balance of form, harmony of gesture become visual stimuli that involves the emotional sphere of the observer.

M. McLuhan), or again, an environment that reflects our being in the world and the fluid changes of life, but also a place where we often find traces of the past, where emotional involvement is implicit in the experience we have in it.

ABSTRACTIONS

Call for Exhibition

International Group Exhibition in Rome. June 2020

FREE ENTRY Artists are invited to submit 1 to 3 artworks addressing the theme

Accepted media: Photography, Digital Graphic, Digital Visual Design

"Abstraction", from the Latin "abstractio", is the process of thought for which an element is isolated from all the others to which it was connected and is considered as a particular object of research, the same procedure that tends to separate the essential qualities of an object to obtain the universal concept about that. We find a procedural peculiarity in the expressive language adopted in the twentieth century with the artists who interpret abstract art, where the separation operation is carried out with the intention of exalting that still too unknown side of the human being: emotionality and perceptions subjective of reality. It is thus that form becomes the result of the encounter between man and the world, in an alternation of empathy, of getting closer to reality and escaping from it.

TRANSITIONS AND DISPLACEMENTS

Call for Exhibition

International Group Exhibition. May 2020

FREE ENTRY Artists are invited to submit 1 to 3 artworks addressing the theme

Accepted media: Photography, Digital Graphic, Digital Visual Design

Transitions and displacements are the objects of reflection for our call. The concept of the two terms is a recall to the "liquid" vision of contemporary philosophy. Transitions, displacements, mutations of condition are the prerogatives of a fluid approach to reality, prerogatives of a free change in the state of things that allows full organic adherence to the environment and to the context in which each subject / object is immersed .
The works that will take part in the exhibition will represent an excursus on the subject, addressed both from a physical, chemical and biological point of view and from a social, cultural and political one.

MIRRORS AND REFLECTIONS

Call for Exhibition - Accepted media: Photography, Digital Graphic, Digital Visual Design

Group Exhibition in Rome, Italy. April 2020

FREE ENTRY Photographers and Visual Designers are invited to submit 1 to 3 works addressing the theme

As the title of this call says, the works collected on the occasion of the next LoosenArt collective will expose a theme that has always been subject to interpretations: the mirror, a means of symbolic and conceptual connotations through which the artists of the past have conveyed analytical and metaphorical meanings.

From the reflection of Caravaggio's "Narcissus" to Pistoletto's shattered mirrors, these are just some of the examples that testify of a continuum in the history of art in reflecting on the very concept of "reflection", a further confirmation of the intrinsic nature of the creative act, that of the exposition of the self and of our perception of the world, interior and exterior, through the execution of the artwork that becomes the mirror of the self.

Aesthetic products that recall the human figure or fantastic figures, represented by dolls and puppets, up to the virtual productions of avatars, are products through which man since ancient times represents himself, his own world, his own stories, fears and fantasies. Since ancient times the concept of "game" has been taken on by countless philosophers, artists and writers, pouring into it a philosophical and conceptual value, as demonstrated by the writings of Aristotle, as well as those of Schiller, Kant and Huizinga.
Kant takes up the founding element of freedom in the game and associates it with the aesthetics where the judgment of taste is based on the "free play of our cognitive faculties" of the imagination and the intellect. Or again, Johan Huizinga can be considered as one of the major theoreticians of the game, the theme at the center of his work is Homo Ludens, which assigns to the play activity of man the driving force of art and science.
No less are the authors of the art world who bear witness to the interest in the subject.
Artists, photographers and visual designers are invited to propose works that address the theme of the game in a new perspective, which reconsiders the theme through aspects that mark the contemporary: globalization, new interactive media, gambling addiction, etc.
