"This image is from an on-going conceptual photo series I started in February 2020, a bit before the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and the global lockdown. It started out with just the idea of documenting the feelings of isolation, solitude and anxiety; however, as the project and the life went on, I often find myself, as well as many other people I know, witnessing scenes in our daily life that seem as surreal and eerie as in a dream (or nightmare should I say). A few common things in dreams and our reality right now are: 1) strange is normal; 2) we may face some of our deepest emotions or sentiments which we don't know what to do with; 3) we sometimes experience paralysis. The connection between dreams and our reality is often felt vividly when we regret having woken up from a nice dream (and wish the dream would have lasted longer) or, the other way around, when being in a horrible reality for too long we wish that it is just a bad dream and we would wake up from it, or instead, somebody can wake us up because we are so paralyzed by the painful realization that we might have no way out. I think my work explores and reflects these points." - C. L.
