Tania Bohuslavska

Posted on June 01 2018

Mainly focused on herself, Tania Bohuslavska likes to explore her body as a metaphor of the emotional and mental conditions she feels. As she affirms, identity, sexuality, loneliness and fear are some of the main protagonists of her shots, embodied by still life compositions or facial/body expressions.

For me photography is an instrument of self-knowledge and self-expression, with the help of it I could investigate the physical and psychological limits. It's important for me to create things from the inner space. The work of imagination and feelings is on the first place for me. - T. B.

Tania Bohuslavska is a Ukrainian artist born in 1990. Her visual and digital work is the result of her experience and education: a Bachelor degree in Psychology and further studies in photography. Mainly focused on herself, she likes to explore her body as a metaphor of the emotional and mental conditions she feels. As she affirms, identity, sexuality, loneliness and fear are some of the main protagonists of her shots, embodied by still life compositions or facial/body expressions. The camera is thus a medium of (self-)representation, but also an instrument showing the physical and psychological limits of her, our body. Mid-way between pure photography and performance, Tania’s pictures intend to illustrate, but also to explore, going deeper, over the surface. And they do that with the help of black & white nuances, but especially through extremely vivid and contrasting colours.

Her artworks are exhibited internationally, from Turkey (“A Different Life” exhibition, Istanbul 2018) to England (“What Goes Up Must Come Down”, London 2018), from Ukraine (“Mechanism of Evolution”, Kyiv 2017) to France (“Polycopies”, Paris 2016). Published artist, Tania has been recently awarded as “Photographer of the year” (2nd place) within the categories of “art” and “landscape” photography (2017), receiving a wide and international consensus.
