Michal Hustaty is a Slovakian multimedia artist based in Luxembourg. After he attended the Secondary Technical School of Fine Arts in Košice, he studied Audiovisual and Digital media at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica, and Photography, Intermedia and Multimedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislav.
During these last years Michal Hustaty got several commendations and awards, including first prize for HotDock Gallery in 2011 or second prize for Chromania! minispace.com in 2012. His artworks have been exposed in several countries such as Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Spain and others.
.
As a result of working with different media, Michal Huštaty's artwork carries conceptual contents that deal with political and social issues as well as more personal issues of the individual, as artist himself reminds us. The photography series presented by LoosenArt testify his interest towards conceptual art, looking explicitly, for example, at some of most important names in the conceptual art history, but also addressing to some issues affecting the social and political life of his country with a sense of humor, and also of absurdity.

"Robert"

.
L.A.: Michal, each of photographs present at LoosenArt Gallery has a
name of famous fine artist, can you tell us why?
.
Michal Hustaty: Yes, Duane, Damien, Anish, Robert a Marina are names of
famous artist. They are on my list of favourites. I used them in photography as
another level of meaning, and all of them in way of my own interpretation.
Together they can also create game for viewers with more knowledge about art,
because they can guess, which photo is dedicated to who.
.
L.A.: How useful today attend an institution such as the Academy of Fine
Arts for the formation of an aspiring artist? How has influenced your way
of bringing out new ideas for your work?
.
Michal Hustaty: Academy of fine arts really helps. We were used to
communicate our even small ideas and thoughts together with all students in
studio. So I like that kind of brainstorming. Have to chance to hear opinions of
others, which of help can my idea move foward. But most inportant is inspiration,
which I see in my social enviroment. Can be some big political changes or it can be just leaf fallen form a tree.

"Marina"

.
L.A.: Can you take one of your works from those presents at LoosenArt
Gallery and express a personal comment about meanings or concepts?
.
Michal Hustaty: I like about this serie, that these photos can work togehter in
group and as solos, too. my favourite is maybe "Anish". Name of well known
artist Anish Capoor and his work "Shooting Into the Corners", presents a canon,
triggered by an attendant, that shoots enormous wedges of red wax across the
gallery space, transforming the museum into a site of violent explosion and its
dramatic accumulations as reminder of wars, power of men. I went in my
interpretation to to more opposite way, I repetead that red part with laundry in
small room filled with intimity. It is more about stereotype, about work "for
woman". About small, but important war in our homes.

"Duane"

.
.
L.A.: What photographers or other artists inspire you?
.
Michal Hustaty: Most inspiring for me are big events as Turner prize or Venice
biennale, where I ussualy can discover new and old exhibited next to each
other. But one of my first artist, who influenced my way of thinking was Nan
Goldin and Wolfgang Tillmans. Also I love Romand Ondak and Ilona Nemeth,
great slovak artists.
.
L.A.: Are you working on any other projects currently?
.
Michal Hustaty: I just finished my bigger solo exhibition in Kosice (Slovakia) an
I thought, that I deserve a small vacation from work, but my head can not stop
thinking about next. Now I am preparing project about photography in
postinternet situation.
